Why these calculators

A number without context is not much use. Every CalcMatters calculator comes with the formula it uses, the assumptions it makes, and a plain-English explanation of what the result means for you.

They all run entirely in your browser — nothing you type is sent anywhere or stored. Each one links to the calculators that usually come next, because most money decisions chain together: your loan payment determines how much you can save, and what you save determines when you can cancel the mortgage insurance.

The figures that change every year — tax brackets, the IRA contribution limit, the Social Security wage base — are not typed into the pages. They live in one place and are pulled in wherever they are used, so a single update moves every page at once. The methodology page shows exactly which figures the site is using right now, and when they were last checked against the source.

Results are estimates for informational purposes only and are not financial, tax, or investment advice. For your own situation, talk to a licensed professional.
